Entering
the graduate program at Texas A&M University,
I knew my interest was in circadian rhythms but did not know which lab
would best suit that interest and the desire to work in molecular microbiology.
Luckily, the Department of Biology requires laboratory rotations giving
me the opportunity to be directly involved with labs I considered joining.
I was awarded a fellowship from the Biological Clocks Training Program
allowing extensive semester-long training in three labs studying biological
rhythms. This experience gave me a feel for the unique environment of
each lab as well as introducing different model systems and the techniques
used
with each. The rotations provided an arena to broaden my social and scientific
networks and for that reason, there is a great deal of camaraderie amongst
the graduate students and faculty within the department.
