Graduate Admissions

When seeking admission to Texas A&M University, you should submit your application and all required items to the Office of Admissions or the office of the departmental major.


You should contact the specific department or program prior to applying to discuss your intent to apply. The decision to admit an applicant to a program of study leading to a graduate degree is the shared responsibility of an academic department, an intercollegiate faculty (where applicable) and/or a college.

International Admissions

Apply as an international graduate student if you have earned your Bachelor’s degree, are seeking either your Master’s degree or Ph.D. and are not: a U.S. citizen, a Permanent Resident (applicant) of the U.S., or an international student who has previously attended TAMU.

Graduate International applicants who attended TAMU as undergraduate students should apply using the Domestic Graduate Application.

How To Apply-Checklist

Applying for graduate school requires time, organization, and detail. It is important to begin the application process early to be able to prepare and make sure you have the all necessary documents and information. However, the time and effort is worth it!

1. Learn about the fees
Fees are required for submitting graduate and professional school applications. Some colleges and departments may have separate application fees. Texas A&M University does offer fee waivers to U.S. citizens or permanent residents; in such cases, applicants are to submit a letter from their financial aid advisor or other knowledgeable officer that verifies the need for a waiver.

2. Complete the application process
Obtain and follow the exact instructions and deadlines for the specific college and department where you are applying. The application process may vary according to different departments, however, below are some basic guidelines to help you follow:

 

  • a. Request letters of recommendation. You should request three recommendations from individuals who are familiar with your academic achievement and potential. If you have been out of school for a number of years and are unable to contact former professors, you may submit non-academic references (e.g., employers). The individual completing the Recommendation Forms should return their recommendations to the graduate advisor in your major field of study.

 

  • b. Arrange for your official transcripts from each senior-level, post-secondary institution attended. An official statement of the award of the degree or diploma is required for each degree completed.

 

  • c. Arrange for the required test scores (GRE or GMAT) be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to Texas A&M University (Code 6003), the Office of Admissions and Records. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score should be sent, if necessary, from within the last two years is required from applicants whose native language is not English (see exceptions above).

 

  • d. Include specific documents. Be sure to include all the documents the application requires. Some applications for graduate school will require you to write a Statement of Purpose. The essay should describe your background and your reasons for desiring to pursue an education in your field of interest.

 

  • e. Complete and send your application forms, documents, and payment before the stated deadline on your application. Online applications, where applicable, are preferred!
 
  • f. Once you have applied, check with your department or program to make sure that your application has been received and is complete.
