About Texas A&M University
Texas A&M University is one of the few institutions in the nation to hold the triple designation as a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university. As a leading graduate research university and the state's first public institution, Texas A&M offers 94 doctoral programs and 151 master-level programs. Many of these programs have attained national recognition for quality by the National Research Council (NRC). Texas A&M enrolls approximately 45,000 students, of which nearly 8,000 are graduate students.
Texas A&M embraces its mission of the advancement of knowledge and human achievement in all its dimensions. Classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral/Research University - Extensive, Texas A&M consistently ranks in the top tier in terms of both enrollment and research expenditures. The University offers an outstanding research library with research collections of over 2.8 million volumes and 5.2 million microforms. The graduate faculty is comprised of over 2,500 faculty members, of which many are also members of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. A&M University is centrally located among three of the nation's largest
cities - Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. College Station, and its neighboring
city of Bryan, is a dynamic and growing community with a population of approximately
133,000 people.
As a university town, College Station has a high proportion of professionals and enjoys many of the advantages of a cosmopolitan center without the disadvantages of a congested urban environment. Many students proclaim that with four metropolitan areas within easy driving distance, Bryan/College Station offers you many of the amenities of a metropolitan area in a more relaxed, and community-oriented atmosphere.
Mild, sunny winters make the region eminently suitable for year-round activities from fishing and hiking in the beautiful piney woods of eastern Texas to boating, bicycling, and camping in the Texas hill country. There are more than 100 state parks within a day's drive of College Station.
Bryan/College Station's very low rate of unemployment provides opportunities for spouses to easily find work if desired. Many spouses seek work at Texas A&M University.
