Merit Fellowship -Deadline 4 P.M. January 18, 2008

Awarded to Masters and Doctoral Students; $20,000 for one year; $8,000/year for two years; $1,000 insurance reimbursement for first year; In-State tuition for out-of-state students

  • Supporting documents (Not required, but highly recommended)

Specifically, reviewers will consider the following elements of nomination (weights are given in parenthesis):

  • Past Academic Performance (50%) - class rank or GPA; standardized test scores;, quality of past graduate or undergraduate programs; etc.
  • Experience Outside the Classroom  (25%) - extracurricular activities relating to course of study, leadership experience, internship or work experience, and participation in research or publications; experience gained from personal history, etc;
  • Other Indicators of Future Success (25%) - letters of recommendation; awards; honors; and proven ability to overcome challenges relating to personal history, financial position, disability, etc.

Approximately 30 Merit Fellowships will be awarded this year.  The deadline for submitting nominations is 4 p.m. January 18, 2008. Once the online submission is complete, the nominations will automatically be forwarded to the appropriate department and college personnel for online signature approval.

The award selection committee will complete their review as soon as possible. Nominators, graduate advisors, department heads and graduate deans will be notified of the fellowship recipients to verify.  Official award letters will be distributed to recipients shortly thereafter.

Departments are responsible for following up with the prospective student, and must copy OGS on all correspondence to fellowship recipients.

Diversity Fellowship -Deadline 4 P.M. February 8, 2008

Awarded to Masters and Doctoral Students; $13,000/year; $8,000/year-payment split fall and spring; Minimum $7,000/year departmental Assistantship; In-state tuition for out-of-state students

Reviewers will consider the "total person" in their evaluation process with a focus on contribution to diversity both inside and outside of Texas A&M.

  • Evidence of the nominee's successful participation in a diverse environment.
  • Priority will be given to students who further the goals and core actions of the Texas A&M Campus Diversity Plan, which can be found at http://diversity.tamu.edu/plan.
  • Consideration should be given to students who will contribute to the overall diversity of the University.

Pathways to the Doctorate -Deadline for submission 4 P.M. November 20, 2007

$20,000 Assistantship Grant for one year; $8,000 toward tuition and fees for two years; Followup funding by the department

This program provides an assistantship to students from TAMU system schools giving them the opportunity to pursue a graduate education at Texas A&M and in doing so, building relationships with faculty in the department.A mentorship to the student is required of each faculty.

Each proposal must include a mentoring plan and plans of supporting and funding of student's reasearch in succeeding years.

When submitting the name of a student, please provide:

  • Name
  • School graduating from
  • Address and contact information
  • Name of person supervising student
  • Department account number to transfer funds (29XXXX)
    • Funds are transferred after September 1 each year.

Name of student must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies by April 15, 2008 or funds will be given to another candidate.

You must use your NetID and password to access this system.

Each MERIT AND DIVERSITY nomination is automatically sent to each department and college for signature approval.  Each signature must be obtained before nomination is complete.

To access system log on to http://igps.tamu.edu

      • Choose Texas A&M as the organization
      • Enter your NetID and Password (This is the same as your Neo login.
      • Once logged in, IGPS Main page will open.
      • A list of programs will display. Select the program that you are submitting your proposal for.
      • You will not be able to submit the document until all required information has been entered.
      • To go back a screen, click on back button or click 'proposal'.

 

1.  Fellowship Questionnaire - enter the student's name and contact information

2.  Fellowship Files - Uploaded documents need to be in PdF format- the system will not accept any other form 

3.  Once all information has been entered  and all three required sections are checked, the submit button will be active.

4.  Submit document

5.  Main screen will show the document that you have submitted.  Check all information for accuracy.

                     Student appliction must be submitted

6.  Emails will be sent to all Department and signature authorities.  Department Head and Dean's signatures are required.  

7.  Two emails will be sent to nominator; submittion completed and nomination complete once signatures are obtained.
