Faculty-Nominated Fellowships

Some fellowships are given by faculty nomination only. TAMU faculty in the departments make nominations to the Office of Graduate Studies (OGS), and the selection criteria and committees, review processes, and funding amounts are different for each fellowship.

Graduate Merit Fellowships

Description

These fellowships are designed to encourage high-quality applicants to enroll for the first time in graduate programs at Texas A&M University.

• Nominations by faculty only
• Students must be enrolled in their first semester of graduate studies at Texas A&M University
• Awarded through a University-wide competition
• Awarded to master’s and doctoral students
• $25,000 for one year; $9,000/year for four years (doctoral)/ $20,000 for one year; $9,000/year for first year (master’s)
• Reimbursement for the cost of personal health insurance coverage equivalent to the graduate student health plan during the first year of the award only
• In-State tuition for out of state students

Graduate Diversity Fellowships

Description

Diversity at Texas A&M University is an indispensable component of academic excellence.  The Texas A&M University Diversity Fellowship seeks to increase the diversity of the graduate student population at Texas A&M University to maximize the education benefits of diversity, and support the development of scholars who show promise of distinguished careers and who are from difference backgrounds, races, ethnic groups, and other underrepresent groups whose life experiences, research experiences, and employment background will contribute significantly to academic excellence at TAMU. Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Eligible applicants might be found from minority groups historically underrepresented at the university and in their profession, have overcome socioeconomic or other educational disadvantages, be first generation college graduates (neither parent has earned a bachelor’s degree), be persons with disabilities, be veterans or wounded warriors, or work on topics related to these areas. This list is not meant to be exhaustive.

• Nominations by faculty only
• Awarded to master’s and doctoral students
• $18,000/year for 3 years (doctoral)/ $13,000/year for 2 years (master’s)
• $9,000/year toward tuition and fees for 3 years (doctoral) or 2 years (master’s)
• Minimum $7,600/year departmental assistantship (0.50 full-time employee) or a scholarship of at least $7,600/year, and health insurance for the student from the graduate student health plan, for the duration of the fellowship
• In-state tuition for out of state students

Nomination Review Selection Criteria

• Evidence of the nominee’s successful participation in a diverse environment.
• Priority will be given to students who further the goals and core actions of the Texas A&M Campus Diversity Plan.
• Consideration should be given to students who will contribute to the overall diversity of the University.

Pathways to the Doctorate Fellowship

This fellowship is offered to a faculty team through a proposal process.  The fellowship assists faculty teams in identifying and supporting high quality doctoral students from within the Texas A&M University System. The students selected by the faculty team will be conducting research and will be registered full time at the Texas A&M University College Station campus.  The students from Texas A&M University system schools, who are identified as a recipient of the fellowship by a Pathways to the Doctorate faculty team, will receive support from OGS and the team.  For more information about the purpose of the fellowship and the application process, please see The Pathways to the Doctorate Fellowship page.
