Research and Presentation Grant Program

Graduate Student Research and Presentation Grants are for modest amounts; up to $400 maximum.

1. The applicant must be registered full-time at the time of application and at the time of reimbursement. No funds can be disbursed to a student who is not registered fulltime. There are no exceptions.

2. The applicant should clearly type (nothing less than 10 point type will be accepted) the nature and specific objectives of the proposed activities, with emphasis on how the requested funds will be used. Attach a copy of conference program or invitation if presenting a paper and/or poster. Abstract acceptance is not mandatory at time of application if it has not been received, but must be submitted before traveling.

3.  The budget should be brief, but must list the specific items (including breakdown of proposed expenses for travel, lodging, etc.) for which support is requested, giving evidence that the requested amount is realistic and the result of thoughtful planning. The applicant should not simply list a convenient figure or an overestimate; such budgets do not enhance the chances for favorable consideration and can cause an application to be disqualified.

4. Funds awarded must be expended within the time noted in the award letter, or they will revert to the Graduate Student Research and Presentation Grant Program.

5. Reimbursement for Research and Presentation grants will be posted to your TAMU account in the form of a scholarship.  If you have a balance due, it will be deducted from that posting.  Any credit amount will be sent to you in the form of a refund check.

6. Any non-expendable items acquired with Graduate Student Research and Presentation Grant program funds will become the property of the graduate student's major department and must be returned to the department at the conclusion of the research project.

Word of caution: Plan Ahead . The purpose of the grants are to fund activities undertaken during the semester AFTER the semester in which the deadline occurs. If you are proposing to conduct research in the same semester as the deadline, be aware that the review and approval process can take as much as one month. Funding will not be awarded to activities taking place prior to time of award. if conducting research, you must state the date you will do your research.

APPLICATION FORM, SUBMISSION AND NOTIFICATION (Save PDF to desktop, type form and get signatures.)

  • The application must be concise and on the one-page form supplied by the Office of Graduate Studies. It must be signed by the Chair of the student's Advisory Committee and the Department Head. (Save PDF to desktop, type form and get signatures.)

    By signing the application, they endorse the:

    a. Academic merit of the proposed activity;

    b. Eligibility of the applicant (see Eligibility above); and

    c. Fact that there are no departmental funds available to support the proposed activity.

    The original application is required.

    • Applications should be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Studies.
    • It will not be possible to grant all proposals within the limited budget of the program. Even some proposed meritorious "fundable activities" may have to be rejected or only partially funded. The committee will exercise its judgment to make awards based on the merit of the individual proposal and on an equitable distribution of awards among students from the various colleges of the University.
